$$$...The business of college athletics

ESPN.com is currently running a special feature about the most powerful boosters in college sports. Boone Pickens, Bear Jr., Wal Mart money, Thunder Mills(towels for Wal Mart), & Bobby Satan all make apprearances in the Top 10.

One of the special editorials Thursday will cover Bobby ("Steinbrenner of College Football, Tiger of a Trustee") Lowder. He might die a trustee. And Colonial is building a corporate headquarters ala Home Depot/Nextel/sprawling campus in eastern monkeytown. $hake, get ready for more boom heading that way. The evil empire grows.

Let us know what you think about the chairmen of college football. Who is really in charge of our nation's academic institutions and their amatuer athletic programs?

What would you build with the money you will donate from your multibillion dollar fortune later in life? What will you name it? What would you do with the influence?

Nice to see Auburn recieving the Iron Bowl trophy at halftime. Something good for a change. Hopefully Tubs has learned an embarassing lesson.

Quick poll. What is the breakfast of choice on any given workday?

tigernation said...

Granny's sausage egg chee biscuit or Chick Fil-A chicken buscuit and hashy browns.

Granny's is a gas station that has a lady cooking biscuits in the back. You can smell the meat when you walk and it makes me so hungry.

It's an old wooden building and the gas is Phillips 66 so it's sort of country. But the owners......you guessed it...Towel Heads. With a fat white lady making the biscuits.

A nice big fat bowl

Nation-I thought you were gonna say..."The owners of Granny`s...you guessed it...Frank Stallone."

How lucky did Bama get last night as Auburn decided not to score and extend their lead, for over eight minutes in the second half? That was a horrible display of shooting on both sides. Both teams are very weak, but will probably be good in the next few years. A lot of freshmen on the court both ways. What the hell was Dollard thinking when he threw up that prayer from way behind the 3pt. line at the end of the game? Should have come in about 3 or 4 steps at least. Congrats Crimson Tide on the big win without Chuck Davis. It was a pretty impressive display of heart to come back and hit the big shots when they needed them.

I only watched parts of the b-ball game. I missed the end but the parts I watched were pretty sloppy. Lots of hussle but very raw. It was kind of like watching a real good high school game. I am on my day off and have to get some new shoes today since my New Balance got muddy yesterday. Any suggestions?

ShakeYour$Maker said...

Dr.--Luck doesn`t even come close to describing Bama`s win and Auburn`s loss. Both teams are extremely pathetic. Both teams will be lucky if they win another or a single SEC game.

Auburn had a lead until about a minute or so left in the game. I think they only scored 8 points in the 2nd half. Call it what you want...Luck, suck, I don`t give a fuck!

Nation- The new Jordan`s look cool, or you could go with the Classic "Reebok Pumps." If it were me, I would just get a new pair of "newbies."

ShakeYour$Maker said...

Or some "BK`s"...for those of you that did not watch nickelodeon`s Double Dare...British Knights.

tigernation said...

I just got back from the mall with my new K-Swiss. Just kidding, I got some Newbies. They're just so comfy. Also picked up some new jeans and the Warren Haynes Bonnaroo CD. It's pretty good, just him and his axe.

ShakeYour$Maker said...

Did you get some of those sweet Lee jeans, or did you just get the usual...Jordache?

Levis baby. Only brand for Nation since '94.

One comment about Lowder and zero comments about Logan & Phil's Memphis romance novel???

Wow Dr, little fired up. Quest for mediocrity? And when did anyone call what Auburn is doing a Dynasty?

I know Bama has lots of pretty trophies, how many were won while you have been alive? And don't let your Crimson glasses blind you to the fact that Auburn is a big time program. No, they didn't win the "National Title" but we all know that they were pretty fucking good in '04. And I'll leave the national title argument out for now.

Two questions, (1) what is the record in the Iron Bowl since you were born? (2) Once again, who called Auburn a "dynasty"?

Really, Auburn people are sick and tired of the History and Tradition argument. Congrats honestly about the wins of the past. Bama deserved them and earned. That time is over my friend. There are scholarship limitations now and the playing field is level.

Sorry if Auburn people are proud of beating a rival that pounds their chest about shit that happened 40 years ago.

I understand that Bama fans are tired of hearing about "4 in a row." I would be also. But Auburn people are tired of hearing about the past. It goes both ways.

Yes, every school pays kids to play football. So why bitch about probation when you get caught if everybody is doing it?

Do you really think the program at Bama is on the same level as Auburn right now? Not 10, 20, or 30 years ago, but now. And please leave scholarship reductions and probation out of the argument. There is no arguing with 4 wins in a row and 5 out of 6. Not talking shit, just asking some questions.

Ha Ha, I noticed the time on the post and figured you had a night on the town. Yeah, listening to sports talk radio pisses me off too. I used to listen every day but these guys in ATL are always sucking on UGA so I just listen to music now. I'm sure I'll start back in the fall but for now the talk is just inflamatory in an attempt to get ratings.

tigernation said...

If Bama doesn't win 9 games with that shedule I would never watch them again if I was you. Not that Auburn's schedule is any harder, but 9 wins should be pretty easy.

tigernation said...

Don't you hate when those morons make an entire fan base look like a bunch of unrealistic moron's? All true fans of every school get a bad rap because of a bunch of outspoken inbred idiots.

Auburn will never get a shot at a national title until they quit losing games in which they are supposed to win by more than 7 points. I can handle a loss to a good team or even a decent team on the road. But making a habit of losing to lesser teams is not the way you get favorable national attention, no matter how much your arrogant SOB coach wants to tell people how good you are. I also wouldn't have a problem with Tubbs if he would keep his freaking mouth shut and be humble. It bothers other fans more when you win with dignity and act like you have been there before. When you tell people how good you are and then lose to a shitty team you set yourself up for harrassment.

ShakeYour$Maker said...

WOW! What the fuck got into Dr. Feelgood`s panties last night. Must have got the itch from a piece of "Strange Ass" last night.

I had no idea we were arguing about Probation and "Bama is Back."
While we are on the subject I will throw my two cents in.

Auburn has dominated Bama over the past four years. Not that Bama has not had success with other teams over that span..it just hasn`t seemed to be the same equal caliber teams in the Iron Bowl. Auburn clearly has the advantage with much more speed on both sides of the ball, and overall ability. If this was not OBVIOUS to everyone that watched the first half of the game this year, then to those who don`t agree, you are a complete fuckin moron. Yes, Bama has a great storied tradition of winning in the past....BUT that was the past. 10 wins is a great feat...but not so great when you can`t beat your arch-rival. Until that day comes, Bama fans should keep their mouths shut. Auburn has gotten in trouble in the past...but the sails have been turned in the right direction and
Auburns best daysare yet to come. Sorry to say it, but Bama`s best days are long gone in the past.
I`ll take Iron Bowl wins every year over any bullshit trophy that sits in Shittown Tuscaloosa.

Daddy, If you would hit the toilet when you pee you would not have the water on the floor. Or did you fill the tub up too high so when you got in to play with your rubber ducky it overflowed all over the floor?

Houston NUTT replaced his QB named JOHNSON with a freshman named DICK. Only in Arkansas.

Glad to see Daddy posting, I thought everyone had gone home for the weekend. What are everyone's plans?

tigernation said...

Word of advice.....leave the home repairs to the pro's. I have ruined many a toilet or garbade disposal because I am an idiot and tried to do a quick fix.

I am puppy sitting for my room-mate's 8 week old Beagle. I might bring my boy Bo over to help. I also have to work tomorrow so no parties for nation tonight.

tigernation said...

Daddy, are you sure that you and Shakes are not going to see Brokeback Mountain together? I heard it's right up your alley!

Gay cowboys, gimme a freaking break. Leave it to Hollywood to try and force gay acceptance on every part of society. Gay cowboys? You have got to be kidding, when cowboys get lonely they screw livestock (goats, etc...) not eachother.

ShakeYour$Maker said...

Tornado warnings all day in these parts. I`ve been under my desk in the tucked position since about nine this morning. Yall be careful. Brokeback Mountain rules.

ShakeYour$Maker said...

Daddy--what the hell happened? You were Laying Pipe and it squirted out on you? Man that shit happens all the time. It`s nothing to be upset about.

ShakeYour$Maker said...

5 Maybe a little before. What are you doing? Are you at work or are you just chillin?

tigernation said...

Weather sucks here in GA. Hampers my selling, if that is possible.

Shakes, any luck on a hotel for next weekend? My date wants to go out afterwards, don't know if I want to. I think the wedding starts at 7 so I'm guessing the reception will be over around 10. I guess I could go out for a little while in order to make sure she stays drunk. And we all know what happens when she stays drunk!

King of Tigerland said...

Neither Shakes or Nation are allowed to be pussies next weekend.

I invite everyone to go to al.com and read Finebaum's saturday column. Hits the nail on the head boys.

tigernation said...

Copied and pasted this one paragraph for everyone's enjoyment. From Finebaum:

"This is a school where the benchmark of success used to be based on winning national championships. Have times changed so much that simply finishing ahead of Auburn in the final AP poll -- in spite of being dominated on the football field -- accounts for a significant sign of success?"

King of Tigerland said...

Oh how the times have changed. The 20th century belonged to the Bama. The 21st century so far belongs to AUBURN and looks to continue to do so.

Let's be realistic about Bama next year. 9 wins but the D will slip but still be in the top half of the SEC. Already one of the worst offenses has only way to go but up.

Shula might get respect as a coach if he could have produced with such a great and talented QB like Stickman. I dunno about you but I want a MAN and not a boy at QB. No one with heart, balls and passion makes comments about winning 18-7.

And beating your arch rival in the last game of the year is a stepping stone to the championship. No championships are won until that hurdle is conquered. Bama will not be a national contender until they beat AUBURN on the field and not the polls.

Maybe Caldwell will do better Britt for he will forever be remembered for anchoring the worst offensive line showing in Bama history.

King of Tigerland said...

The King is off today.

King of Tigerland said...

AUBURN got a D end commit this weekend. How did Bama do?

Watch for Nikita Stover to be immediately on the field as he was the top recruit out of Alabama bf juco and could be NFL caliber after it is said and done in Tuscaloosa. If he keeps his grades.

Dr.,

Bama has to beat AUBURN to be capitalized every time you use the word.

tigernation said...

King, nice having a day off in the middle of the week. I usually take thursday since I have to work lots of saturdays.

I saw that commit from this weekend. A typical Auburn signee. Not known by anyone but has good size and speed. I'll take an unknown guy with physical potential who might need a redshirt just as fast as a big name guy with the same size. It's all about what you do with them when they get there.

If we get these 3 guys the class will be great: Hawthorne, Whitehead, Deas, Ricks. Those guys will make or break our class this year. Not that recruiting rankings matter, but I would like to see those guys on the plains.

tigernation said...

Just got Shakes email of Daddy's stache. "Classic" is all I have to say about that. The question is how long will he keep it.

I know everyone likes to think this is the MLK holiday but that is a common misconception. It is actually a celebration of the birth of the coolest guy on the planet......TIGERNATION. We celebrate the holiday the day before my birthday as to not take away from the actual event. Do not be alarmed if you see women soaking the sidewalk when reminded of the birth of their dream guy......TIGERNATION.

I will be expecting the sacrifice of a virgin (Shakes or Daddy) at dawn tomorrow in honor of my birth.

tigernation said...

Daddy, do you have the Sugar Busters diet book? I need to lose some pounds and that seemed like a good way to do it but I don't want to buy the book. Kind of like college. Take the class but don't buy the book.

King of Tigerland said...

Nation,

I am a Thursday guy myself since Fridays end an hour earlier at 5 or when I am able to stretch a Sunday into a Monday for two days such as was the benifit of Atlanta's signifigant Democrat population. Did ya'll have a celebratory sidewalk sale? South Beach works well also when followed.

Happy Early Birtday and we shall celebrate this weekend. Did you get a room yet? Holiday Inn Express Pharr Rd is calling your name.

The Powerstache must endure for a while. I think $hakes should follow suit as well.

King of Tigerland said...

Great email of Vick Jr. Seems like sexual deviance runs in the family.

King of Tigerland said...

I love a good holiday couch/recliner sit. Especially great after a rough night.

tigernation said...

Seahawks vs. Steelahs in the Superbowl. Write it down

tigernation said...

You always look like a pedafile.

King of Tigerland said...

Don't be surprised to see the Panthers play the Steelers. They will be all over Denver on Defense.

King of Tigerland said...

Peanut and Hawthorne may be a package deal.

tigernation said...

I'm not one to get my panties in a wad over 17 year old recruits, but, I sure would like to see Hawthorne and especially Peanut come to AU. Why wouldn't Hawthorne want to come since we lose 3 starting receivers? And then we lost McClover opening a hole for Peanut to get some early PT. You would think he could come in and contribute since he is 6'6". Isn't that what the stars mean on the rankings? 5 star meaning you can play right away.

ShakeYour$Maker said...

5 Stars means that you could skip college ball and go straight to the pros.
I was a five star in baseball, basketball, football, tennis, track, wrestling, badmittin, thumb war, chess, and pimpin.... but decided that I was better off just being a fraternity boy at Auburn.
