Coaching Changes in the SEC

Coaching changes are a fact of life in big time college football. That is no different in the SEC where several high profile jobs were filled this winter. David Cutcliffe returned to Tennessee as the OC of Tennesse and Randy Sanders taking over the QB's at Kentucky. Spurrier made Nix his right hand man on the defensive side of the ball in Columbia. Auburn DC David Gibbs traded leagues with Will Muschamp as Gibbs made a good choice to get out before he was found hanging at Toomer's Corner. Now that the dust has settled, who has the best coaching staff in the SEC? Who puts the playes in the best position to win? Who makes a difference in the game?

Thank you for welcoming a new poster to the Fix, Jessica. I agree that we have been needing a little diversity around here since the last Bulldog does not bless us with his presence anymore for some reason. Your damn straight, Jess. This is the best blog in the world. "Diversity, I believe it was an old, old wooden ship used during Civil War times." -RB

Keys and Alibaba have been boys for a while. Please correct me if I am wrong. Keys came to stay with Alihambra his senior year at North Jackson. He got in trouble with a bag of weeeeeed? Did not play his senior year. What the hell?

So is Jessica Simpson the blog mascot?

I'm not sure who has the best staff. I guess UT since Cutt is back and then LSU with Fisher.

I would love to say AU but we don't know how Muschamp is without Saban.

Kentucky and Brooks are heads and above every staff in the SEC and probably the nation.

I would have to say that coming into last season, UT probably had the best coaching staff (going by Bulldogbite`s theory of tenure, meshing w/ other staff and players, etc....). That whole staff had been together for a while and now with Cuttcliff returning as OC and Sanders out...they might just be able to make a giant turnaround.

I think Bama has a decent staff minus the head coach. Kines has brought the defense back to its old rugged self. OC Radar has taken a step backwards in developing any sort of offensive production. I think he will improve the offense with a more mobile QB (that can`t be sacked by a one-armed defensive player like Stickboy)...and also, with a more improved line.

I like Auburn`s staff, but it seems like something fishy is going on within. Tubbs ego probably has a lot to do with the on-going turmoil.

UGA has in my opinion has the best head coach (Spurrier may be better,or a very close second) ...not the best staff though. He always has the Dawgs ready to play no matter what (except 2004 Auburn game...)..and he does his job with class, and has UGA at the top in the national polls and the SEC on a yearly basis.

Lastly, Urban Meyer, Fatty Oregeon, and Les Miles can suck it. I don`t think these guys have quite caught the grasp of SEC football just yet. I can`t comment on their staff yet, because they haven`t proven anything to anyone and are still using old coaches players. Once they have their own recruits playing that fit their schemes we will be able to judge their coaching ability.

Erickson to Idaho is and will always be the MOST important coaching change.

Yea...I think Dubose is at Millsaps or something like that. I think he just got out of small time Alabama High School football.

Did you talk dirty to the test and get it all wet before you stuck your dick in...or did you just thrust it in there dry as a bone?

Daddy - when you lick do you spread the Roast Beef Curtains before insertion?.....I sure do.

The Ole Miss Ogre will have them on probation by 2009.

Kentucky still has the best staff and you know it.

Bulldoballs - Golfing Saturday? I'm thinking we should go play Chestatee since The Hooch is closed for renovation....let me know and I will get a Tee Time.

Daddy- I was sure that the "Leagalize It" festival would be your #1 festival.

I will do my best to attend. Although, that is right in the middle of Bathing Suit season so mass amounts of BBQ might not be good for my swimsuit look.

I agree with the consistency arguement with Bama, but no Shula led staff will ever be considered elite when you can't score. LSU 13, Auburn 18, Tennessee 6 Ole Miss 13.......seriously, guys.

Watch out for Urbran Meyer next year. I am going to go with Richt since he has maintained that level for several years running and seems to be an example of consistency and success. Even though I still hate him for submarining FSU against Oklahoma. That is two BCS rings that Stoops has againts Bobby. 95 at UF and 01 at Oklahoma. He does look like Helen Hunt to.

Tubs is an arrogant prick. He needs to learn humility like RICHt. No need to pop off every few months for attention. He knows what he is doing and should have left it at the U.

I want to go to Memphis for BBQ!!!!!!

Maybe I will have sealed the deal by then. We started classes this week and hopefully licensed and away from Julian by then! The online course is terrible and I bought a brand new computer for it but oh well now.

And no, Jessica, is not the mascot. She is a Wilberette. Kinda like the Dashettes with Pat Forde.

Would you like more diversity?

Here are some of the rule changes that will be in place next year. These were decided on this week at a conference in Indy. Not the whole article, just the meat and potatos.

"The committee also decided to allow each team one challenge during the course of the game. The head coach may request a review by signaling for a timeout. If the challenge overturns the call on the field, the coach retains the right to challenge later in the game and is not charged a timeout. If the call on the field is not reversed in the challenge, the team is charged a timeout and the coach does not have the ability to challenge again in the game.

The committee also responded to the growing length of game times. Football games now routinely exceed three and a half hours in length and many games pass the four hour mark. As a result, the group decided to shorten the halftime allowance from 20 to 15 minutes, with the understanding that conferences or institutions may lengthen halftime upon mutual agreement of the participating teams.

Three other changes figure to shorten the game without significantly disrupting the normal flow of the college game.

First, the committee voted to start the clock on kickoffs when the foot touches the ball, not when the returning team touches the ball.

Second, the committee shortened the length of the kicking tee to one inch, which will likely limit the number of touchbacks on kickoffs.

The committee also decided to start the clock when the ball is ready for play on a change of possession. The latter change is expected to save about five minutes per game according to limited studies conducted by the Southeastern and Big Ten Conferences.

After seeing the number of eye shield requests expand rapidly in the past four years, the committee voted to eliminate the use of tinted eye shields during games. In reports from the NCAA's Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sport and the National Athletic Trainers Association, both groups supported eliminating this allowance. Both groups noted that there are alternatives to the helmet shields if an eye condition warrants protection (contact lenses, sport goggles, etc.)."

Anybody have any thoughts? I don't like the banning of the eye shields. Those things are badass.

Shakes McMoney -

I listened to the Angel from Monkeytown and it is pretty damn good. Drags a little but I'm sure y'all were tryin to play it slow. There are so many versions I am just used to the live Susan T style that is a little faster.

All in all it was very good and I was proud of y'all. Can't wait to get down there and contribute.
