Monday morning of game week has arrived. Thursday night kicks off with Georgia Tech, Vandy and South Carolina all starting. Then, Saturday, the festivities truly begin. I will be working from home Friday as I see it as a national holiday. Nothing better than kicking off college football on a holiday weekend.

If you had not already seen, Atlanta has a new symbol. They call it the "International Symbol for Gay" after the Olympic Games of 1996 and the insanely high Elton John population intown. Their fight song is Madonna....doesn't matter which particular song, just Madonna.

Word out of Athens is that NFL superagent Drew Rosenhaus has already purchased KnoMo a sweet, little Beemer M3. Word also stated that Mark Richt had it prompty returned. No doubt he will be in the NFL this year....if Stafford can complete at least 60% of his passes, he will be there also.

What other way to dive into the first week of August than with college football practices kicking off over the weekend than with my best guesstimate of how teams stack going into the season. Take it away, Jess.

TOP 25

1. Florida--I think they get by UGA in Jax if defense grows up but explosive offense will carry team til they do.

2. Georgia--Need Stafford to achieve at least 60% passing and for WR's to show up. MoMass the Terrorist is completely overrated...almost as much as Fred Gibson. Defense could be great with Rennie and 9 returning starters.

3. USC--Defense is tops...new QB surrounded by inexperience with only 4 returning starters raises questions. Winner of September 13 Ohio State matchup will be in driver's seat for a slot in Miami.

4. Oklahoma--Best young QB in nation but can they win a big game???

5. LSU--Best offensive and defensive line combo in game today. All new QB has to do is not lose the game to win with all the surrounding talent.

6. Ohio State--Might be the best Buckeye team...ever...can they win a big game? Big Ten games do not count.

7. Texas Tech--Prolific offense...can defense hang in there?

8. Auburn--Defense has a chance to be great...will the Spread Eagle fly in East LA?

9. Texas--I see Texas as the loser of the Red River Shootout with Okie and Texas Tech.

10. Tennessee--The Vols will be a lot better than people think.

11. Missouri--Heisman candidate and Mr. Everything...prolly represent the North in the CG.

12. Clemson--Class of ACC talent wise but never seem to live up to expectations.

13. BYU--Pass happy all the way to the BCS.....if they get by Utah.

14. Virginia Tech--Completely rebuilding the defense...Beamer and Foster are two of the best in the game and will earn their paychecks this year.

15. West Virginia--You cannot tell me they are better than last year with a straight face. It will be the Pat White Noel Devine show until the skinny ass White gets knocked out again.

16. Arizona State--Are they ready to make a run at USC this year? Can hot head Rudy keep his head and can the O-Line protect him.

17. South Carolina--Fighting Spurriers will be great on defense and it will allow the offense to play catch up.

18. Mississippi State--Fighting Crooms are on the rise.

19. Wisconsin--Cheeseheads are paying more attention to Farve.

20. Oregon--Very talented and will make a run.....gotta have plenty of quarterbacks.

21. Wake Forest--Fratty Riley Skinner is back and Jim Grobe is one of the best in the game.

22. Michigan--Lost all time leading rusher, passer and the first pick in the draft. Growing pains but they will beat Ohio State within 3 years.

23. South Florida--Most of the team returns and maybe the second best team in the state. Ouch.

24. Florida State--Gotta catch USF.

25. Nebraska--Pelini will be huge...big improvement this year.

Florida is my pick to win the SEC East because they are seeking absolute, deathstar revenge over uGay for storming the field like a naked man wanting to get on TV. For as good a person as Macht Richt is, he is an imbassal for ordering his troops to storm Alltel Stadium last year. Number 1, he ordered something against the rules of the sport, 2 he could have started the greated brawl in Cocktail Party history. This year the winner of the East will be whoever leaves Jax with a W.

I expect Tennessee to be better than most people think....and they will payback Bama for the drubbing last season. University of Concrete in Knoxville wins 9 games. South Carolina is in line for 7-8 wins. If the offense matches up with the D then they have a chance to knock off any of the above 3.

Vandy will flirt with bowl eligibilty but in the end....probably won't make it. Kentucky = Is is roundball time yet? The Wildcats simply lost to much off last years team and their QB is pulling a John Parker Wilson, getting a DUI.

LSU will win it in the trenches. Not saying, but I kinda am saying, they have the best combo of offensive and defensive lines in the country. With all that talent, Haaaarvard only has to manage the offense and not be an idiot. Auburn will be right behind them and has a realistic chance of winning the game in September, just don't forget the Volunteers from the concrete campus are coming the next week. Auburn is gonna be goooooood, LSU might be a tad bit better. Thank heavens Brandon Cox is now selling orthapedic devices!!! Auburn will still beat Bama but won't have to worry about the horrendous INT's under pressure......now the QB just runs out of it.

Bama is back....haha...just had to say it again. No, really, no, I would be impressed if they won 8 games considering the complete lack of depth on defense (especially the front 7) and brand new recievers....oh yeah, JPW is still QB, and he is worse than Brandon Cox ever was, now that is saying something. If Bama wins 8-9 it will be an exceptional season.

Ole Miss could be the most improved team in the SEC. They have a great front 7 on defense but the worst backfield in the SEC. On the offensive side of things, they now have a QB and RB who might be above average. I still can't decide who is crazier: Nutt or Miles.

Missy State will not win the Egg Bowl again...that billboard will get rubbed in their face. Definitely a bowl team but it may be Shreveport.

Arkansas: See Kentucky, lost everyone, but the new offense could be great. Petrino is simly a POS individual though so who cares.

AP---A Mobile cage fighter accused of inciting a brawl in front of an Auburn University fraternity house by yelling "Roll Tide" - and stabbing several people in the subsequent melee - is now charged with bribing a mentally retarded man to take the rap.

Joey Barrett Jr., 25, of Irivington is being held without bail in the Lee County jail on assault, bribery and witness tampering charges, according to the sheriff's office there.

In a Thursday interview, Joey Barrett Sr. denied the allegations against his son, who he said was being "railroaded" by prosecutors. He declined further comment.

The fight broke out in front of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity house on the eve of the 2005 Alabama-Auburn football game. Three fraternity brothers - one stabbed in the chest, collapsing his lungs - were sent to the hospital.

According to prosecution testimony at the subsequent 2006 trial, Barrett incited the altercation when he and two other men walked down the street in front of the fraternity shouting, among other things, "Roll Tide." When a member of the fraternity asked them to leave, Barrett started the fight, the witnesses testified.

Barrett's attorney in that trial, John Williams, told the jury the fight was started by the fraternity members, who he said were drunk.

Most importantly, Williams argued during his opening statement, it wasn't Barrett who did the stabbing at all, it was another man, the now 40-year-old Louie Lotz.

Lotz, Williams promised, would swear under oath that he stabbed the fraternity members in self-defense after getting caught up in the fracas.

The next day, however, Lotz's attorneys said he would not take the stand.

Circuit Judge Jacob Walker, presiding over the trial, said Lotz, a Mobile man, had been classified as mentally retarded and was barely able to read or write.

Prosecutors, arguing that Barrett's lawyer had tainted the jury by saying another man would admit to the stabbings, asked for and received a mistrial. Barrett was released and the case remained open.

Six months later, in January of this year, a grand jury indicted Barrett Jr., charging him with bribing Lotz and conspiring with other defense witnesses to lie under oath. His bond was revoked, and he was booked into the Lee County jail in June.

During the months Barrett was out of jail, the Press-Register ran several announcements publicizing a May 10 cage match promoted by Barrett Sr. He and his son were to fight it out in a 12-person "last man standing" contest.

Barrett's bribery case is scheduled to go to trial Oct. 20.

Williams, Barrett's attorney, did not return calls for comment on the case.

Lotz has not been charged, and Margaret Young Brown, an attorney assigned to him, declined comment on the case.

We'll probably never know the rest of this story. Apparently, not even former Auburn football coach Pat Dye knows the rest of the story.

On Lake Martin's shore, expanded because of drought conditions, a lady by the name of Shannon McDuffie happened upon Dye's long-lost wallet, hidden under water for the past two decades.
That story would have been interesting enough in itself. But McDuffie also found the long out-of-style madras golf pants that went with it. The mud-covered wallet contained Dye's driver's license, credit cards and the like from the mid-1980s. A set of Toyota car keys were in the pants pocket.

An amused Dye, who had a condominium at Stillwaters at the time, could offer no explanation.
"I don’t remember losing it, but now listen, that was a long time ago,” Dye told the Lake Martin edition of Lake Magazine, which reported the discovery in an online story Tuesday.

“I don’t have any idea how I lost ’em,” Dye said, “but we can make up a good story.”

Dye invited McDuffie to attend the Blue Jean Ball, where he said he would donate the pants and their contents for a charity auction. The last time Dye auctioned off clothes was after angry Syracuse fans sent him ugly ties after Auburn settled for a game-tying field goal in the final seconds of the 1988 Sugar Bowl.

Could this week last any longer? Maybe it only seems that way since I essentially had a week long vacation and I was only in the office a total of 6 hours last week....already surpassed that today alone. Road tripping through Columbus, Phenix City, Albany, Athens, Augusta and Stockbridge took me almost 900 miles and all over the state of Georgia. I was in Alabama on Tuesday and South Carolina on Wednesday.....then a solid 8 hours to St. Petersburg on Thursday for a nice vaca of beach and baseball.

What I am about to tell you is absolutely true. I could not have planned it any better.

So, KB and I went to spend a nice hundred dollar gift certificate to a place called Kurt's in Duluth. So after a bottle of wine and a decent steak, we get in the car and drive back into town. What do we see in front of us but a big, red Tacoma with Roll Tide all over it. Forsyth County mind you.

So we pull up to the car and I give him a SIX!!! Six fingers out the window! Take that, Sidewalk Bammer. He is not happy and lays on the gas.....vrooooooooooooom, he speeds off.

We catch up and get the thumbs down out the window. HAHAHA!!! Weak!!! And then, vroooooooom, he speeds off again.

Birmingham's bowl between Cincinnati and Southern Mississippi drew a 1.9 household rating on ESPN2, accounting for 2.75 millionviewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. That was up 12 percent from the inaugural game in 2007.

Viewership of all bowls declined by 12 percent with a 3.6 average rating, the lowest in the 10-year history of the Bowl Championship Series. Twenty-one of the 32 bowls saw lower ratings than in 2006-07.

Alabama's victory over Colorado at the Independence Bowl, competing against an NFL game with playoff implications on NBC, drew a 1.6 rating and ranked 25th among the bowls. The rating was down from a 3.0 for Alabama-Oklahoma State in the Independence Bowl in 2006.

Auburn's overtime victory over Clemson at the Chick-fil-A Bowl drew a 4.4, the second-highest rating for a non-BCS bowl, behind a 9.1 for Michigan-Florida at the Capital One Bowl. The Chick-fil-A Bowl's rating was down from a 4.8 a year ago.

Mobile's GMAC Bowl, between Tulsa and Bowling Green, drew a 1.0 on the day before the BCS national title game. The GMAC Bowl drew a 1.6 last year and its ratings have been dropping since moving to a January date.

The PapaJohns.com Bowl's 1.9 rating was the second highest among the five bowls owned by ESPN. The others owned by ESPN are the Las Vegas (2.1), Armed Forces (1.7), New Mexico (1.7) and Hawaii (1.3).

ESPN initially said the PapaJohns.com Bowl drew a 2.26 rating. That number calculated viewers against the number of households that have ESPN2, and Nielsen calculates it against all U.S. households.

The Big Ten had a team in each of the three highest-rated bowl games. Six of the 10 highest-rated bowls involved SEC teams, more than any other conference.

Many bowl games continue to produce higher ratings than what networks might otherwise program in those time slots. But the average bowl rating continues to drop from its BCS- high of 5.3 in 1998-99, when there were 10 fewer bowls.

In a telephone survey of 1,482 people by Nielsen, 73 percent indicated they planned to watch three or more bowl games, 20 percent said they would watch five to seven, and 14 percent said they would watch at least part of every game.

Forty-one percent indicated there are too many bowl games, and 51 percent said they believe college football needs a playoff system.

-Recruiting-I am starting to love all the speed that is being recruited by CTT and CTF to reinvigorate a stale Tiger offense. Speed kills and Auburn has more of it than Alabama.

-Atlanta Falcons-Can't find a head coach to save their lives. Here is hoping it happens soon as I have turned to the Hawks and Thrashers for my winter doldrums. Went to the Hawks game Friday and Thrasher Saturday. One of the best things I have seen in a while is sudden death shootout in hockey. Thrashers beat the Penguins in sudden death and we didn't see Jean Claude Van Dam anywhere.

Upon further review, the 2006 season was a mix of highs and lows. Auburn speaking at least. Two early losses to bowl teams that should have never happened, a last second Les Miles Miracle for LSU and a black out beating by Georgia were the 4 losses. The 9 wins put the Tigers at 20 wins in the last two years and 50 over the last 5. Averaging 10 wins a year ain't bad at all. Tied for the most wins in the SEC with LSU over that span. Bad thing is that Tubs ain't winning in Atlanta near as much as he needs to be. He needs to get there and that entails beating LSU at home more often. Tubs, get to Atlanta and you will win.

Upon further review, the Peach Bowl was an astounding success for the Auburn Tigers. Who else can install an offense in 9 practices and then rack up season highs in yardage and number of plays? I am looking forward to the Spread Eagle offense in the fall. Mario Fannin will be an all star. Will Auburn have an All SEC reciever? Fat chance but a better one without Brandon Cox.

Do it, Tony Franklin.....thank your defense because they can be simply amazing and they were just that on NYE.

Welcome to 2008! This is going to be the best year ever.

I had millions of ideas flowing through my mind and now don't have the concentration to put them together on a page...........so we'll just go with bullet points........not like anyone posts or responds anyways.

*Auburn Defense gave the new Auburn Offensse a chance to win the Peach Bowl against Clemson. Great game, from what I saw. I actually only saw about 10 minutes through the whole game and then overtime as I was stuck at Widespread Panic next door. And I got in trouble for it even though I was given "permission" to watch it on the club level.

Does anyone detect any bitterness from WPC over this??

*I don't care if I ever see Widespread Panic again. Every show seems exactly the same. Can we please outgrow this?? So fn glad that New Years is over.......next year we should jump from Thanksgiving directly to Christmas and then skip New Years.......at least Marta was fun......bc I was absolutely not sober and couldn't stop laughing at the lil' ghetto smurf who kept asking if I "Watch the internet?" while he mimicced typing with his lil' ghetto hands.

*Will Fn Muschamp---Thank you, Arkansas & Ole Miss for not taking him. Auburn now has (argueably..sp) the best set of coordinators in CFB and the best coaching staff in general. DCWfnM is amazing and will have the best defense in the SEC......again.

*Urban Meyer has now proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Tim Tebow cannot save a team from not having a legit running game. Michigan beat Florida's brains out all day long.

*Hawaii didn't belong on the same field as Georgia. I have not seen such an unmerciless attack on a quarterback since Auburn sacked Stickman in the Iron Bowl a dozen times. Georgia and USC deserved each other in the Rose Bowl...Georgia had no business being in the BCS Championship game though because they got blown out by Tennessee....it was 35-0 before garbage TD's made it seem a bit closer....and they can't beat Spurrier, that is like not being able to beat Duke.

*Arkansas embarassed themselves.......ugly game, ugly unis. I hope Petrino gets the ever living shit beat out of him the rest of his career. Arky will be on probation by 2010 if you ask anyone at Louisville.

Auburn--held Clempson's RB's in check (with the exception of the OMG run) and shut down Cullen Harper---Cullen, maybe you should have gone to Auburn after all.

Peach Bowl--------the Lola Bowl.........ahhh, we now have the matchup for the ages. Auburn vs. Clemson in the Peach Bowl. Two gorgeous campus', two gorgeous female student bodies, Lake Hartwell vs. Lake Martin, the best uniforms in college sports vs. potentially all purple, Tommy vs. Tommy, ahhh the Bowdens still hate Auburn.

BCS=BS..............perfect scenario to necessiate a 4 team playoff after the season. Now is time to expand the BCS to 4 teams and not just two.

Better yet, after this season of ratings for Notre Dame, they will not command the same TV contract as they used to. Hopefully this brings ND into the Big 10/11 and thus another conference game. Same with the Big East and Pac 10.

Tuscaloosa Police reported that an individual attempted to "egg" Coach Nick Saban's home last night.

The report stated:

An empty egg carton was recovered at the scene. Two eggs hit Coach Saban's house, 3 eggs went over his house and hit his neighbor's back door, 2 eggs hit the houses of each of his next door neighbors, and the remaining 3 eggs were found broken on the ground near the carton from where the individual threw them. Second, $400,000 a point is what Alabama paid for Saturday night's debacle. It should have been 35 zero, at least. If Brandon Cox was half a quarterback it would have been very, very, very ugly for Alabama. 12 underthrew 3 touchdowns(at least 35 yard gains if you want to argue). Brandon Cox is the winningest active quarterback in the SEC. John Parker Wilson has a losing record as a starter at 12-13.

Even at his worst, 12 is better than anything Alabama can put on the field. Auburn had better players at every position, bar none. And that should be the case for at least two more seasons.

I would also like to take this time to thank all the Wilbur Churchill fans in section 107 that cheered for my press conference reenactment during halftime. Aight!!!!!!

Citing the 9-11 terrorist attacks and Pearl Harbor, Alabama coach Nick Saban said Monday his team must rebound like America did from a "catastrophic event."

In this case, that would be an embarrassing 21-14 loss Saturday to Louisiana-Monroe.

"Changes in history usually occur after some kind of catastrophic event," Saban said during the opening remarks of his weekly news conference. "It may be 9-11, which sort of changed the spirit of America relative to catastrophic events. Pearl Harbor kind of got us ready for World War II, or whatever, and that was a catastrophic event."

Alabama's just getting ready to face No. 25 Auburn, its biggest rival, on Saturday.

A Saban spokesman said the coach chose the 9-11 and Pearl Harbor references to illustrate the challenges facing his team.

"What Coach Saban said did not correlate losing a football game with tragedy; everyone needs to understand that. He was not equating losing football games to those catastrophic events," football spokesman Jeff Purington said in a statement to The Associated Press. "The message was that true spirit and unity become evident in the most difficult of times. Those were two tremendous examples that everyone can identify with."

THE CREAM HAS RISEN TO THE TOP LATELY

With identical records, Alabama and Auburn could not be further apart in regards to the state of the football programs. Auburn has found an identity while Alabama has regressed.

First, Alabama is in trouble. The redshirt freshmen running back who the Bama fans (including Carl Montgomery) crowed about as the SEC's leading rusher is not even the starter anymore. Bama prefers to run the ball with Glen Coffee, who reminds me of Tarrant Lynch, and Roy "F Saban" Upchurch. The Mississippi Midget, Terry Grant, is no longer the Tide's first choice.

The offensive line still sucks. #71 can't play all 5 positions and Andre Caldwell is the most overrated linemen in the SEC. Right after King Dunlop but we will get to that in a few.

Coaching...not pretty. The most telling sign that Alabama is poorly coached. At the end of a game in a hail mary situation, DB's are taught to knock the ball down, not intercept it. Well, the team player that is Simeon "I'm a crying b$tch" Castille intercepted the Houston football to end the game while LSU knocks down Tebow's last prayer in Baton Rouge. And Saban coaches the DB's, don't tell me he is not telling those guys to knock it down. They just don't listen or care (ex. Roy "F Saban" Upchurch).........also, when the head coach calls out the playcalling in the papers it is not good......the tide is unravelling, fast.

Johnny Parker Walker Crimson, well that is another story. He will not be an elite QB ever at Alabama, he doesn't have the footwork or balls it takes to win in the SEC.

Defense, huh, what defense? That is a joke on the Capstone.

To be blunt, Alabama does not know how to close the door on an opponent, a trademark of a Nick Saban team. This isn't Saban's team. Nor will he stay around long enough to make it his.

Bama is favored by 6 in Oxford this weekend, ha, Ole Miss covers like a champ and might win!

Do you really think he will be there for his first recruit's senior season?

Now back to the eastern plains of Alabama for the Auburn report. Not much to write about other than the Tigers look to be the class of Alabama football again. Their offense has regained its footing and looks to be as explosive as 2005. Tubs says he will be back (we shall see) next year.

The defense is #2 in the league and missing 4 starters. Seriously?!?! How is Will Muschamp not the best DC in the league? I say better than Bo Pelini. Who wants to argue??

In closing, Auburn looks to be the dominant team in Alabama again.

As an Auburn alumni and a life long Seminole fan I took extra special pleasure in Saturday evenings festivities. September 29, 2007...the night Scarbinksky and Finebaum's mouths were closed.

Oh, my, how the Tide has changed. FSU defense physically pummels Alabama's offense as Auburn defense and offensive line physically abuse the Florida lines. Bama will have to figure out how to play outside of the two minute mark.

Florida State's suffocating defense gave the balding, hair plugged Sabior fits and his young tandem of OC Major Applewhite and John Parker Wilson shut down. JPW is a good athlete, however a system quarter back with horrendous footwork at best. The score was closer than the game.

Auburn starts 3 true freshmen and they abuse the Florida defensive line. Auburn's defense was incredible as usual. The true key...Stickman Brandon Cox did not turn the ball over. Recievers caught balls, running backs made plays and the defense was amazing. Terrific play calling and gameplanning by both Borges and Muschamp.

The Tigers are alive. They might just have a chance against Tennessee Tech now.

Did this weekend really happen? Did Wilbur really start off picks with a 3 game streak and then crash and burn with 3 losses? Did Auburn's offensive line really look that bad? Did that girl do the Phi Mu rush song at 5 am and make me laugh so hard I could cry?

Apparently the answer is yes. It was a terrific weekend with the exception of what was televised Saturday.

"A W is a W" or "At least we won" will not appease me. The offensive line was so bad that Hugh Nall's grades were published in the newspaper. The returning starter is the worse?

Zone middle is not our only running play and when there is penetration, why don't you trap? Where was Mario Fannin? Tubs runs his mouth for weeks then the guy barely sniffs the field.

Robert Dunn and Ben Tate (who played a great game) need to learn to set up blocks. Both had long returns/runs that could have gone the distance if they were patient and did a better job of using the blockers in front.

Al Borges may have lost his touch calling plays.

Quentin Groves is the best defensive player in the SEC, no arguement.

The defense bent but never broke, the only touchdown was on a trick play, however they had tried to run about 3 times by the time it got in.

Last 6 minutes.........yeah, the Alabama excuse, I know.........Auburn looked unbeatable for the last 6 minutes. Can they play like that for 60 minutes? Can Auburn put together 3-5 step drop passes and a few play action 7 step deep posts? Can they loosen up the line so that a back can find daylight? Can the defense play with fire late into the game and not only when it is needed?

Nation, $ & Daddy, I appreciate the hospitality. Carl, there is a challenge from the Margarits Boys that the Martini Boys might need to handle this weekend so get ready.

The speed and power of the defense prove to be to much for the Bulldogs as they hold yet another foe to under 100 yards rushing. Matt Flynn & the offense race to an early two touchdown lead and don't look back. Early Doucet scores two touchdowns. LSU covers 18 like a champ 45-12.

Friday

Washington @ Syracuse...Washington is in their pivotal rebuilding year under Ty Willingham. Syracuse is still at the botton of the Big East barrell. The Carrier Dome will not be a fun place to be Friday night as Washington walks out with a W. Huskies 23 Orangemen 13....UDub covers 3 with relative ease.

Saturday

Georgia Tech @ Notre Dame...who is gonna play QB for the Irish?? We won't know til game time however it won't matter to much with a stingy Jacket D that will swarm any Irish attempt. The Tech offense should be much improved as well and Tashard Choice will run all over a slow Domer D. I will take the Yella Stingers all day at plus 2....Tech 27 Domers 17

Oklahoma State @ Georgia...can the Bulldog D stop the potent Cowboy O? That is the question as Fat Matt Stafford & Co. should hang at least 4 TD's on a defense that ranked low yardage allowed but ranked high on big game changing plays. TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — The Tuscaloosa City Council voted 4-3 to impose a 3 a.m. Friday and Saturday closing time for businesses that serve alcohol, a move aimed largely at providing a safer environment on The Strip.

On Thursday night, bars now close at 2 a.m. Friday, and they aren't required to close at all on Friday night/Saturday morning. Councilman Lee Garrison urged the council Tuesday night to support the University Strip Area Advisory Committee's recommendation to close at 3 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

"I think we ought to give the committee's recommendation a chance," Garrison said. "If it doesn't work out, we can come back and look at it later."

Mayor Walt Maddox, who opposed extending the Thursday night closing time by an hour, said he is considering vetoing the council's action. It would take five council members to overturn a veto.

Police and university officials say the lack of a closing time on Saturday morning has created a crime problem. But neighborhood residents and some city officials were concerned that closing the bars too early would move late-night partying into residential areas.

Just like Atlanta's bar hours....no wonder this college town has a coke problem.

Ok, so this Borie lady is a teacher at Hoover High....and an ex-Bama cheerleader. Well she was told by coach Rush Probst to take a "special interest" in Kerry Murphy, bama signee, when he was a freshman. Well that doesn't seem like that big of a deal...except, she is accused of pressuring a fellow teacher earlier this year to change his grades to make him eligible to play in college. Well, with her being an ex-cheerleader she is known to the NCAA as a "booster" of the program. Since Murphy was a bama signee, and her a booster, then would it seem that she would be aiding in the illegal admission of a player to the program? I don't know, but i would be interested in what the NCAA has to say.

Not to mention the request made by bama for Hoover to send a "better transcript" for signee Josh Chapman, to make him eligible to play at the Crapstain.

TUSCALOOSA - Not guilty pleas were entered on behalf of Alabama football players Brandon Fanney and Roy Upchurch this morning in Tuscaloosa District Court.
Fanney, a sophomore linebacker, and Upchurch, a sophomore running back, did not attend the hearing and were represented by attorney Jason Neff. Each player faces charges of disorderly conduct due to a July 14 disturbance outside a bar on the area of University Boulevard known as "The Strip."

Sophomore defensive end Brandon Deaderick, who was also arrested as a result of the incident, has applied for youthful offender status. Deaderick was charged with criminal mischief, resisting arrest and providing a false name.

Tuscaloosa police spokesman Capt. Greg Kosloff said Castille was arrested in an entertainment district near campus. He was taken to the Tuscaloosa County Jail and released after posting bond. Police declined to release details of the incident.
Through team spokesman Jeff Purinton, coach Nick Saban said he didn't have all the facts of the case on Sunday and would deal with the situation "internally."
Saban led his team through scrimmages Friday and Saturday before giving the team a day off Sunday. Alabama starts the season against Western Carolina on Sept. 1.
Castille is the fifth high-profile Crimson Tide athlete -- the fourth football player -- known to have been arrested in the past two months.
Brandon Deaderick, Brandon Fanney and Roy Upchurch were arrested for their role in a disturbance near campus on July 14. Fanney and Upchurch were charged with disorderly conduct and Deaderick was charged with criminal mischief, resisting arrest, and giving police a fake name.
Basketball player Yamene Coleman was arrested and charged with credit card fraud last month.

My offensive line coach from Bob Jones, Coach Mo Thigpen passed away from a heart attack at 42. I have never, ever, ever, ever, ever been screamed at like he used to scream at me. In demonstration, this 6'3'' 300 lb. man would knock me into briar patches by our practice field to simply prove a point to the rest of the line. My chemistry teacher, Mrs. Sullivan said to me one Monday after attending the game on Friday night, "I am friends with your mama but if you ever get in trouble I am going to Coach Mo and not her."

He was someone who knew exactly what we were doing on the weekends and even had beers with after we were out of school. For what it is worth, he did a great deal for me in a time where my parents marriage was in shambles, my father was non existent in my life and I could have very easily gotten myself into trouble. I was the smallest starter on the line at 193 pounds, he gave me a chance to prove myself and I appreciate that. May he rest in peace.

Back in the South. Things are much different here after several days in Boston. A few observations......

-Bahston, yeah, they really do talk like that and they think every one from Alabama talks like Forest Gump. "I was expecting more of a drawl." Some of us might be Southerners by the grace of God, however we are not all redneks.

-When I look at Nation, Diddy, $, & Dr. I see pure bread white boys. You have no idea what ethnicity there are up there. And there are tons of Chinamen & women. Cheety would be in Asian heaven.

-Logan Airport made famous by Blow & 9/11............security still seems loose.

-Chowda....it is good however I truly can't tell the difference from Campbells.

-Smoke wins again!!!........same car, same result. Dr. & $, I am chasing ya'll down!!

-Natalie Gulbis wins for the first time. Hottest woman golfer around finally shows that she can win. Next, she should shoot for Playboy and get her father a haircut.
